Week 5 of #52Ancestors – In the Census – posted two weeks late!

In the 1930 United States Census, it is interesting to see both sides on my mother’s family living in the same building. 85 Driggs Avenue, Brooklyn, New York.

25 people are counted as living there in five apartments, of which at least 18 are related. The relatives lived in four apartments.  My mother’s (Virginia Basso) three living grandparents resided there.

In one apartment lived her maternal grandmother Mary E Canning (nee McWilliams) and an uncle and three aunts.

In another apartment her paternal grandparents (Bartolomeo Basso and Rose Basso (nee Cavagnaro)) lived with an aunt and an uncle.

In the third apartment lived another of her dad’s sisters, and her husband and three kids and another sister.

In the final apartment, another of her dad’s sisters, her husband and their son lived.

In 2018, it is hard to imagine finding so much of one ancestry in one address!  This includes all your living grandparents and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
